SUPERCHARGED 1.8 VVC K-SERIES
|
This unique specification of engine retains full Variable Valve Control operation and utilises mainly standard Rover 1.8K VVC components to control costs.
The only internal changes are forged pistons, fitted with new rings and running in new liners, and custom designed uprated con-rods and rod bolts. The engine retains the original block, crankshaft, cylinder head assembly, intake manifold, exhaust system and head gasket. Only the MAP sensor is changed to accommodate both positive and negative pressure.
|
The supercharger itself is a modified version of Turbo Technics original epicyclic design, however this system uses a blow through throttle body as opposed to the draw through design originally used. This enables us to retain the original induction manifold and negates the cost of a custom item. Part throttle overboost protection is by way of a vacuum initiated dump valve, which returns the cool air overboost back into the compressor intake.
The engine is controlled by an Emerald K3 ECU which, as well as retaining the VVC control also incorporates an IACV (Idle Air Control Valve) system identical to that used on the standard VVC ECU. This ensures a smooth and sustainable idle and improves low rpm driveability.
The ECU also has 3 selectable maps stored internally that can be changed at the flick of a switch, even with the engine running.
